Lay on your left side at night to get rid of stomach gas bloating. This one does require a bit more explanation. Okay… Your esophagus connects your mouth to your stomach, but it doesn’t take a straight-line path from head to gut, attaching at the top of the stomach. Instead, it takes a curvy path and opens into the stomach on your right side. If it weren’t for this anatomical set up, the increase in abdominal pressure you experienced when you jump or ran would make you vomit. As a side effect, a little bubble of gas gets trapped at the top of the stomach. Laying on your left side will shift that bubble over the opening of the esophagus, which will help you release gas out the attic (the basement is another story).

Combine vitamin C with iron. Vitamin C helps in the absorption of iron, particularly non-heme iron from leafy green vegetables like spinach. As noted in episode 1, acids, including ascorbic acid (vitamin C) also block the production of the AGEs produced by the cooking of meat. So, whether you’re cooking vegetarian or carnivore, add your lemon juice!

*Avocados are one of the world’s true superfoods, but they are no good to your health if they are underripe and inedible. To ripen an avocado, even after you cut it, place it in a bag with a banana, apple, or kiwi at leave the bag at room temperature. These fruits release the gaseous fruit ripening hormone, ethylene, which will help ripen your avocado. This is why bananas in a bunch ripen much faster than bananas left alone!

If you supplement with calcium, have it with magnesium, vitamin D, and vitamin K2. Magnesium and vitamin D help calcium get from the gut to the blood, and vitamin D and K2 help get calcium get from the blood to the bones. Combine these four micronutrients to optimize bone health and prevent the deposition of calcium in your blood vessel walls.

Want sweet without sweeteners? Add vanilla! The human brain is great at making associations. Since vanilla is often paired with sweet things, if you just have vanilla on its own without sugar, the brain is partially fooled and assumes sweetness. Try vanilla in your coffee, rather than sweetener.

*Flax meal + egg + microwave = bread! It’s easy and true. Combining ¼ cup of flax meal plus two eggs and putting the mixture in a bowl in the microwave will actually make an easy keto bread with 6 grams of fiber, 20 grams of protein, and only 1 net carb! Of course, these ingredients alone are pretty boring so spice it up. Add coconut oil to the mixture, or your favorite spices. Also add vegetables to make a quiche-like substance. Top the boring bread with avocado oil mayonnaise. Or, do all of these things and more. Make it your own.

To decrease the formation of toxic heterocyclic amines (HCAs) in your food, cook with mint family herbs like thyme, oregano, and rosemary.
If you’re constipated, try twisting to the right and then the left, then lay down on your back and massage your stomach firmly in a clockwise motion. Right then left and clockwise is important because of the way your intestines wind through your inner body. You’re not internally symmetric, after all. This should help physically push things forward. (Also, google the yoga poses malasana, supta boda konasana, and full wind.)

*DON’T USE MOUTHWASH! New research shows that most mouthwashes kill the “oral nitrate-reducing bacteria, and decrease systemic nitric oxide bioavailability.” What this means is that mouthwash decreases whole body nitric oxide levels, which can increase blood pressure. In fact, mouthwash use is associated with DOUBLING IN RISK OF HYPERTENSION!!! AND… mouthwash INCREASES YOUR RISK OF INSULIN RESISTANCE AND DIABETES!
